For strategic consulting I charge $225 per hour. For ongoing projects I charge a per-project fee. The hourly rate used to calculate that fee varies from $125 to $225 per hour, depending on the amount of work involved (more work = lower price).

For non-profit organizations I charge $65 per hour.

And frankly I think it's VERY fishy and telling that almost every freelancer in the world refuses to work for equity.

Think about it. Why wouldn't I accept equity? There are only four reasons:

1. I don't believe in your project's values or mission.
2. I don't believe in your project's ability to make money.
3. I don't believe in you or your team.
4. I don't believe in my ability to do a kickass job and set you up for success.

I like to think (or at least pretend) that I'm a decent guy. So if I believe one of those four things to be true and I STILL accept the job... that's pretty fucked up IMO.

That said, it's important to note that I have a huge risk tolerance, have no dependents, and live on less than $30,000 per year. So the above maybe doesn't apply to someone with a mortgage and kids.

At your discretion, up to 75% of your compensation to me can be in the form of equity and/or royalties.
